Giant Containership Solong Docks in Scotland
The charred remains of the cargo ship Solong, which collided with the oil tanker Stena Immaculate on March 10, made their way to Scotland this morning, March 28. The vessel is now docked in Aberdeen, marking a significant transition into a commercial salvage operation as confirmed by HM coastguard.
The tow arrived at around 7:15 a.m. local time, with the Solong being pulled by a tugboat and accompanied by two others along with a pollution control vessel. It was secured in south Harbor next to an idle oil rig, and port officials assured that it wouldn’t disrupt any ongoing operations.
A representative from Ernst Russ, the company that owns the ship, mentioned that marine specialists and insurers will conduct thorough evaluations of the vessel while it’s in Aberdeen.

Meanwhile, HM Coastguard reported ongoing efforts regarding the salvage of the Stena immaculate. The tanker remains anchored while inspections are carried out. They indicated that transferring its cargo could start as soon as this weekend.
Crowley Maritime Corporation previously shared insights from their survey indicating minimal damage; only one tank was affected due to prompt action taken by the crew who activated fire suppression systems before evacuating. Initially carrying 220,000 barrels of jet fuel, approximately 17,515 barrels were lost during this incident and subsequent fire.
The Coastguard also continues to support local authorities managing cleanup efforts along the coastline. They have been addressing issues related to small plastic pellets known as nurdles that were released during the fire and began washing up on beaches about a week after impact.
