Greece’s foreign ministry on Friday welcomed the unanimous adoption of UNSC Resolution 2771 to renew the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for another year.

“By virtue of Resolution 2771, the Security Council sends a strong message, reaffirming its support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to resume the talks, which aim at resolving the Cyprus Issue on the basis of a Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation with political equality, in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions,” an announcement issued by the ministry read.

The announcement also noted that Greece, as a member of the Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, coordinated with the Republic of Cyprus to exert consistent efforts during negotiations for a renewal of the mandate.

“The resolution of the Cyprus Issue is a top priority for Greek foreign policy. We look forward to constructively contributing to the dialogue for a just, viable, and functional solution to the Cyprus Issue within the framework of the UN Security Council Resolutions,” the ministry announcement concluded.
