The Tokyo-headquartered shipping conglomerate Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has announced that the dry cargo multi-purpose vessel Prima Verde, operated by its group company MOL Drybulk Ltd. and effectively owned by Daishin Shipping Co., Ltd, was delivered yesterday at the Japanese shipbuilder Onomichi Dockyard, Co., Ltd.

The 17,611 tons deadweight Liberian-flagged vessel has 129.66m length and 23.6m breath.

MOL says that she is the “world’s first vessel of any type to use green steel materials, an engine that can run exclusively on marine gas oil (MGO) and a wind assisted vessel propulsion system.”

Japanese steel maker JFE Steel Corporation has for her hull construction supplied JGreeX, a green steel material that -in accordance with the company MOL- significantly reduces CO2 emissions.

Japan Engine Corporation equipped the vessel with an engine that can run exclusively on MGO.

Furthermore, the Prima Verde is equipped with two VentoFoil wind power assisted vessel propulsion devices from Dutch-based ECONOWIND B.V.
