Boluda orders four Konecranes hybrid RTGs

Boluda Maritime Terminals Tenerife has placed an order with Konecranes for four hybrid Rubber-Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes, featuring advanced Smart Features. The contract was finalized in December 2024.

Boluda, an independent port operator at the Port of Tenerife, plays a key role in container handling and logistics in the Canary Islands, a strategic hub connecting Africa, the Americas, and Europe.

Boluda’s decision to invest in Konecranes hybrid RTGs was based on detailed fuel consumption analyses, which highlighted the superior fuel efficiency and eco-friendliness of Konecranes’ hybrid technology.

“Konecranes hybrid drive technology provides the perfect balance of performance and environmental responsibility. The Smart Features also contribute to more efficient container handling and enhanced safety,” stated Gonzalo Calero Gómez, CEO of Boluda Maritime Terminals.

The new cranes will join two Konecranes RTGs delivered in 2007, whose long-term reliability reinforced Boluda’s trust in Konecranes’ durable and ever-evolving technology. The new RTGs will come equipped with Smart Features, including Auto-Steering, Auto-TOS Positioning, Auto-Positioning, Stack Collision Prevention, and Truck Lift Prevention.

“We look forward to supporting Boluda’s journey to zero tailpipe emission operations. This investment Is further evidence of growing demand for hybrid solutions in container handling and underscores Konecranes’ strength in this domain,” stated Darryn Scheepers, EMEA Sales Director, Konecranes, Port Solutions.
