Liberian Registry appoints new Senior Vice President

Liberian Registry, one of the world’s largest ship registries, announced the appointment of Kyle Hurst as Senior Vice President of Fleet Communications and Technology.
With over 30 years of experience in the maritime industry, Kyle Hurst has dedicated his career to the development, implementation, and management of vessel and satellite communication systems.
He will oversee fleet satellite systems, the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), and other critical communication technologies in his new role.
Additionally, he will collaborate with Registry leadership to address commercial and regulatory challenges, ensure compliance with international standards, and develop innovative systems to meet the evolving demands of maritime communication.
“This is an exciting time in the maritime industry. There are numerous challenges in improving existing systems in safety and security, but also with future challenges like S-100 and Marine Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS), it is a great time for me to join the world’s biggest and best ship registry,” commented Alfonso Castillero, CEO of the Liberian Registry.
Before joining the Liberian Registry, Kyle Hurst spent a decade at Iridium, where he played a key role in shaping their maritime business strategy, driving product development, and ensuring market readiness for next-generation solutions. Notably, he was instrumental in the recognition and development of the Iridium GMDSS, a groundbreaking initiative that ended a 30-year monopoly on GMDSS services and significantly enhanced maritime safety. Prior to that, he contributed to INMARSAT’s global maritime market expansion and was involved in pioneering technologies such as FleetBroadband, which introduced IP technology to the maritime sector.
Hurst also brings extensive experience in fisheries management, marine enforcement, and military service, further enriching his maritime operations and technology expertise.
“Kyle’s appointment reflects our commitment to investing in top-tier talent. His contributions to the maritime industry and his innovative vision for the future of fleet communications and safety align with our mission to provide the best services to our clients. We look forward to seeing his leadership’s positive impact,” Alfonso Castillero mentioned.
