A Hellenic Air Force helicopter carried out a dramatic rescue of a 25-year-old crew member from a Liberian-flagged tanker in the wider sea area of Chios, a Greek island situated in the northern Aegean Sea.
According to information from the Greek coast guard, a fishing vessel arrived in the area and picked up a 23-year-old man, also a crew member from the tanker, and transported him to the port of Chios. Both injured crew members required immediate hospital treatment.
As announced by a spokesman of the Hellenic Air Force, in the morning hours of Sunday, December 29, a super puma of the Air Force carried out a rescue mission (MEDEVAC), under bad weather conditions, of an injured person from a ship in the sea area of Chios and transported him to the Chios state airport, where he was picked up by an EKAB ambulance.
