The post Projects exploring ammonia bunkering in Norway receive Enova
Norwegian government enterprise Enova has picked 15 projects investigating investments in ammonia bunkering facilities along the Norwegian coast to receive pre-project support as part of the overall commitment to realizing ammonia and hydrogen value chains within the country’s maritime sector.
Enova revealed the list of companies that will receive support for their pilot projects on February 4, 2025, including Ammonia AS, Azane Fuel Solutions, Boreal Sea, Grieg Ammonia Distribution Vessels, Hitra Municipality, Iverson eFuels, Neptune Tromsø, and SkiGa.
The projects proposed by these companies cover the Norwegian coast from the Oslofjord in the south to Troms in the north and aim to explore specific investment in bunkering facilities for ammonia as a marine fuel.
As explained, the selected projects receive up to NOK 500,000 (around $43,850) in support and have six months to mature toward a possible investment decision and realization. In the next round, the best projects will be able to apply for investment support from Enova for the announced support program Bunkering facilities for ammonia.
The program will be put out for input from the market by the end of the first quarter of 2025, and a final launch is planned before the summer.
“We received more applications than we expected in this round. It shows that many players are working purposefully on projects to offer ammonia bunkering to the maritime sector, and it is gratifying to see,” said BørgeNoddeland, Funding Manager for Enova’s support program Pre-project maritime technology.
“It will be very important to get good input from the market into the design of the program. Through good dialogue with the actors, we ensure that the support program is as accurate as possible, and that it will result in good projects that are actually built and realized. That is the goal.”
Enova pointed out it will continue supporting projects focused on hydrogen and ammonia in shipping through 2025 and 2026. The next application deadline for these support programs is March 28, 2025.
