APM Terminals and Rocsys partner for hands-free charging in Rotterdam
APM Terminals Maasvlakte II, an automated container terminal in the port of Rotterdam, has partnered with Rocsys, a hands-free charging solutions firm, to implement hands-free charging at the Dutch port.
This collaboration will power a key component of the terminal with Rocsys’ cutting-edge charging systems, ensuring the smooth and efficient movement of goods worldwide.
Aligned with the Port of Rotterdam’s commitment to electrification and sustainability, this initiative enhances innovation in automated terminal operations. Rocsys’ open-standards approach ensures seamless compatibility with multi-brand vehicle fleets across industries. Through this partnership, 30 Terberg electric automated terminal trucks (ATTs), equipped with Embotech’s Level 4 AV Kit for autonomous operations, will benefit from 24/7 hands-free charging.
Crijn Bouman, CEO and co-founder of Rocsys, mentioned: “The future of mobility is autonomous, and true autonomous mobility is only achieved through hands-free charging. We are excited about this collaboration with APM Terminals MVII, one of the largest and most advanced container terminals in Europe. This partnership shows how our hands-free charging solution, utilizing standardized interfaces according to the ZEPA agreement, is essential for enabling autonomous port operations, supporting our partners’ journey towards higher efficiency and greater levels of innovation.”
By minimizing reliance on manual processes, this solution enhances worker safety, reduces human exposure, and paves the way for fully autonomous vehicle operations. Integrated with the Rocsys portal, a dedicated monitoring and control platform, the system provides real-time oversight and complete control over the charging process.
This collaboration underscores the vital role of hands-free charging in optimizing terminal operations, promoting sustainability, and improving safety. APM Terminals Maasvlakte II and Rocsys are committed to enhancing operational efficiency while accelerating the decarbonization of global ports through autonomous and electrified logistics.
Harold Kunst, CEO of APM Terminals MVII, explained: “By deploying Rocsys’ hands-free charging solutions we make a significant step forward in achieving our vision of a fully electric, autonomous, and sustainable terminal. There can be no fully autonomous operations without hands-free charging, and by integrating this innovative solution, we are enhancing efficiency and improving worker safety while advancing the decarbonization of our terminal operations.”
