DACSA, a global supplier of food ingredients, has been operating at the Port of Liverpool for nearly 20 years.
Since partnering with Peel Ports in October 2005, DACSA has utilized the UK port’s facilities to store and process key ingredients such as rice, corn, and maize. This collaboration has been crucial to DACSA’s goal of delivering high-quality food ingredients to major brands like Kellogg’s, playing a vital role in feeding the nation.
The grain terminal at the Port of Liverpool, which marks DACSA’s first acquisition outside Spain, has a rich 53-year history. Originally built by Kellogg’s in 1971 with two-grain silos at the Royal Seaforth Dock, the facility has evolved into a key hub for the UK’s food supply chain. A third silo was added in 1999, boosting its capacity and capabilities.
In 2023, DACSA achieved a record-breaking milestone, importing over 200,000 tonnes of food ingredients to the UK via the Port of Liverpool. As the company aimed to surpass this achievement in the following year, the challenge was to enhance supply chain efficiency while scaling operations.
This required seamless coordination across storage, processing, and distribution to meet the growing demands of the UK’s food sector. At the same time, maintaining the integrity and quality of the ingredients was essential for DACSA’s continued success.
DACSA’s long-standing partnership with Peel Ports has been crucial to this success. Peel Ports provided dedicated facilities, including specialized silos for storage and advanced grain conditioning processes.
In addition, the port-centric logistics streamlined DACSA’s supply chain by centralizing critical operations and improving efficiency. In addition, value-added services such as inventory management, customs clearance, and real-time stock visibility further supported DACSA’s operations.
Paco Marti, Corporate Quality and Food Safety mentioned: “Peel Ports are essential in helping us to meet our aims. We’ve had a long-standing relationship with them since we arrived at the Port of Liverpool all those years ago, and they’ve provided excellent support, with their port-centric services being essential to the efficiency of our supply chain.
The Port of Liverpool’s strategic location enabled fast and reliable distribution to key processing facilities, including Kellogg’s in Manchester. This collaboration helped DACSA uphold high standards and positioned the company for another record-breaking year.
Mati added, “Their advanced grain storage solutions, combined with their expertise in logistics and distribution, help us maintain the high standards that our customers expect.”
