Trump imposes tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico and China

US President Donald J. Trump is implementing a 25% additional tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% additional tariff on imports from China, while energy resources from Canada will have a lower 10% tariff.

The newly elected U.S. President has vowed to intensify pressure on imports from specific countries, citing national security concerns.

“The extraordinary threat posed by illegal aliens and drugs, including deadly fentanyl, constitutes a national emergency under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA),” noted the US government in a statement.

According to the US government’s announcement, President Trump aims to hold Mexico, Canada, and China accountable for their promises of halting illegal immigration and stopping poisonous fentanyl and other drugs from flowing into the United States.
