MOL’s New LNG Carrier Chartered to TotalEnergies Named Azure

Japanese shipping conglomerate Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) held on January 10 a naming ceremony for its latest newbuild LNG carrier at the Geoje Shipyard of Hanwha Ocean Co., Ltd. in South Korea.

The vessel, named MOL Azure, ordered by a wholly owned subsidiary of MOL, is a 174,000 m3 membrane type LNG carrier equipped with the latest MAN Energy Solutions engines.

She is fixed to sail under a time charter contract with TotalEnergies Gas & Power Limited (TGPL), a subsidiary of French based TotalEnergies (TOTAL).

Carolina Pretzel, senior vice president TOTAL People & Services for the Gas, Renewables & Power Branch, was one of the special guests at the naming ceremony, MOL mentions.

Upon delivery on January 14, the vessel will be the second LNG carrier to be chartered by TGPL under a time charter contract, and will depart for its first loading port in the U.S.

The vessel bears the company’s name “MOL” to clearly indicate that it is at the core of the MOL Group’s LNG carrier
