Descartes Systems Group Expands Portfolio with $115 Million Acquisition of 3GTMS
Descartes Systems Group has made a significant move by acquiring 3GTMS, commonly referred to as 3G, a U.S. company specializing in logistics solutions for shippers and transport providers. This acquisition, valued at approximately $115 million and settled entirely in cash, marks another strategic step for Descartes.
The software developed by 3G is designed to streamline the entire shipping process—from initial rating and routing to final consolidation—making it easier for users to manage their freight operations. Andrew Roszko, Descartes’ Chief Commercial Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition: “The capabilities that 3G brings to the table are perfectly aligned with our goals. Their robust domestic transportation management features across truckload,LTL,and parcel services will substantially enhance our offerings.” He also highlighted how this partnership broadens Descartes’ reach within North America’s carrier landscape by integrating more API-driven LTL carriers into their existing framework. “when we combine these strengths with our current transportation management tools and Global Logistics Network,” he added, “we see incredible potential to provide even greater value to all our customers.”
This acquisition is part of a broader trend at Descartes; they’ve been on an acquisition spree lately. Just last September 2024, they acquired MyCarrierPortal—a company focused on onboarding carriers and monitoring risks within the trucking industry—for $24 million. Earlier in June of the same year, they welcomed boxtop technologies into their portfolio; this firm specializes in shipment management solutions tailored specifically for small- to mid-sized logistics service providers. These strategic acquisitions underscore descartes’ dedication to bolstering its logistics capabilities.
Edward J. Ryan,CEO of Descartes remarked on the synergy between both companies: “Like us at Descartes,” he noted enthusiastically about 3GS approach—“they have been adept at creating solutions that link shippers with
