A fire broke out in the engine room of the 2007-built Liberia-flagged oil/chemical tanker Kriti Captain on January 25.

The combined chemical and oil tanker Kriti Captain (IMO:9335147), experienced a fire in its engine room whilst moored at Port-la-Nouvelle, France, on January 25, 2025, according to reports from claims specialist WK Webster.

It is reported that local firefighters quickly responded to the incident and successfully extinguished the fire. There were no reports for injuries.

“The vessel is currently reported to be at anchor off Port-la-Nouvelle, with tugs in attendance. We understand that that the vessel is unable to continue its voyage under its own power and may be taken under tow by tug to Marseille, France for inspection and, possibly, repairs,” WK Webster said on January 25.

The Maritime Prefecture of the Mediterranean confirmed the incident mentioning that the tanker has been taken under tow after a fire broke out in its engine room in France.

Marine traffic database showed yesterday the vessel located in the West Mediterranean heading towards the Fos Sur Mer Anchorage in France.
